There is this quote from Malcolm X I remember reading some months ago:
The media is the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.
This says something in relation of what happened in Luneta Park last September 26.
To the shock of many netizens, particularly Dabawenyos and Cebuanos, what took place in Luneta(Rizal) Park two days ago was never heard from the two network giants.
I wonder why. The media blackout can mean POWER more than anything else. The POWER on what to tell and what not to tell.
The owners-including stockholders- of ABS-CBN and GMA 7 clearly proves here that they do not want Duterte to win if he runs. And by reporting the rally at the Quirino Grandstand would change the minds of the people, particularly those opting for Mar Roxas, Binay and Grace Poe, particularly Manilenyos.
But they have forgotten the social media.
Maybe because the networks think that it shouldn’t be on TV because it is supposed to be in relation with the Presidential campaign. Meaning, you can’t broadcast on TV if it isn’t paid.
But is it already a campaign period? It is news. The people made this happen, not Duterte. It is not even a campaign. It is news. The person involved has even said that he will not run. So how can you call it a campaign?
Or maybe it was not shown on TV because of this what they call ALDUB and PASTILLAS GIRLphenomenon.
UPDATE: 09/29/2015
There is this news clip from TV Patrol that ABS-CBN did news about the rally in Quirino Grandstand, but only a very little portion of the segment. The clip is only 28 seconds.
It didn’t tell about the huge mass of people who gathered there.
UPDATE: May 7, 2017, 10:48 PM
Still, the grand, Miting De Avance Rally of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte at the Quirino Grand Stand LunetaPark last night was not reported in ABS_CBN and GMA Network, including TV 5. Maybe it was reported on bits, little segment. But it wasn’t aired one live coverage.
The rally on Saturday, May 7, 2016, reached from 600,000 at early stages and grew to one million when the rally was about to end.
Here’s what transpired last night. Check the photos below:
