During in an interview with Nimfa Ravelo of DZBB, Senator Grace Poe suggest that the United Nations and the European Union should study first the problems of the Philippines regarding the illegal drugs before condemning President Rodrigo Duterte.
Wag lang kayo mag condemn, wag lang kayo mag bigay ng statement na ganyan. They should also study, ano bang pruweba ninyo na nangyayari lahat yan? Is it just based on statements na ilang libo na ang extra-judicial killings victims?-Sen. Grace Poe
Senator Grace Poe is actually referring to the statement of Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein during the Human Rights Council, where he said:
Empowering police forces to shoot to kill any individual whom they claim to suspect of drug crimes, with or without evidence, undermines justice. The people of the Philippines have a right to judicial institutions that are impartial and they have a right to a police force that serves justice.- Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein
While the EU members including Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Czech Republic, Sweden, Portugal and Finland also released a statement regarding President Duterte and the extra-judicial killings.
President Duterte publicly stated he would not pursue law enforcement officers and citizens who killed drug dealers who resisted arrest.
It can also be recalled last August 22, 2016, where Duterte welcomed the UN Committee to investigate and he will personally explain the extra-judicial killings.
On the last part of Poe’s interview in DZBB, she stated that it would not be a problem if these countries are just expressing their concern to our country, as long as it does not affect PH’s Independence.
If they care for our country, okay lang, that’s their right. Hayaan mo lang sila, dapat naman talaga may pakialam tayo sa lahat ng komunidad sa buong mundo kung may katotohanan talk. Basta hindi natin ina-abdicate an gating territorial integrity, national sovereignity.
