40 Abu Sayyaf dead, 25 wounded in a Military Offensive in Basilan and Sulu


THE ongoing military operation in Basilan and Sulu against the Abu Sayyaf has left 40 of their members killed and 25 wounded.

 In Basilan, the continuing offensive by the Joint Task Force Basilan which started last Wednesday led to the killing of eighteen 18 Abu Sayyaf members and wounding of nine others.

AForty members of the Abu Sayyaf were killed and 25 were seriously injured due to intensified military campaign against the group.

This is the first counter-offensives conducted by the military under the leadership of President Rodrigo Duterte. The thousands of military troops attacked the nest of terrorists backed by rocket-firing helicopters and artillery fire.

A spokesman for the Western Mindanao Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Major Filemon Tan, 22 bandits were killed and 16 wounded in attack by soldiers in the jungles of Sulu started last week.

In the neighboring province of Basilan is also 18 Abu Sayyaf dead and 9 wounded encounter with concurrent invasion of the meeting focused on the town of Tipo-Tipo.

The military operation is in coordination with the police and the local governments of the provinces of Basilan and Sulu.
